Collected essays, reviews and articles

Jonathan Gaisman

This website collects in one place the published essays, reviews and articles which I have written over the last few years, alongside practising as a KC in commercial law.

These pieces originally appeared in one or other of TheArticle, The Catholic Herald, The Critic, The New Criterion, The Spectator, Standpoint and The Telegraph. Some of the essays can be found on the internet, but not all. In particular, the 30 or so (mostly long-form) pieces which I wrote for Standpoint are not generally available. Others have been edited in ways that do not necessarily constitute an improvement.

When I began writing essays for publication, I initially confined myself to classical music, and about half of the essays are on this topic. But almost immediately I branched out into wider cultural subjects. A very few have something to do with the law, but I hope that they are readable nonetheless. In case the reader may find it helpful or of interest, I provide a short preface to most of the individual articles.
